toolLevel tipstool

These are just some things that you should think of when making a level:
- General - Singleplayer -
- Battle, CTF & Treasure Hunt - Treasure Hunt only - Race -

toolGeneral

- Download this JCS.ini and replace your old JCS.ini with it. Then, you can use the "Holiday Hare 98" enemies and the "Trigger Zone" event and you can use pinball events, airboards, swinging vines, big rocks and many other things in multiplayer.

NOTE: Unlike the JCS.ini available at Jazz2City, this ini places the "Trigger Zone" event in the "Triggers & Scenery" group instead of in the "Area" group.

- Be different.

- Use different tilesets. I'm tired of seeing levels with the same old tilesets that have been used a million times. And there are plenty of excellent home-made tilesets out there.

- Don't use "rapid fire" pickups. They make the game too easy.

- Find some cool music on the internet or make your own.

- Use plenty of eye-candy.

- If you have two or more "warp targets" with the same "ID". You never know at which one you will appear. This can be really fun in multiplayer.(It also works with start positions)

- Don't use sucker tubes too often. People like to PLAY games. Not just sit and watch. We have TV for that!

toolSingleplayer

- Have a (preferably good) story for a change. Most levels don't and it really adds to the fun.

- Use realistic and logical level design. That way people will get the feeling that they're realy walking through a certain building or environment.

toolBattle, CTF & Treasure Hunt

- Don't use only one kind of weapon in your level. Variety is the key.

- Don't use Seekers. They ruin the game. They're too powerful. This screws up the weapon-balance. You can only fight Seekers with Seekers and that's no fun.

- Use warps.

- Don't make dead ends. Everything should have at least one exit. That makes a player more vulnerable and thus, more fun.

- Small levels are most fun with 2 to 6 players. Big levels are fun with 8 and up. Don't try big levels with less than 8 players. You'll constantly have to search for the action. Mind your audience!

- Don't put food in your level. It's no fun when someone suddenly get's a sugar-rush and kills everybody.

- Go easy on the power-ups. Don't over-use them and when you use them, make them hard to get. For example, in a bonus room (where you have to get 10 coins to get in).

- Have a chatroom. People like to talk without getting shot all the time. Make the chatroom a weapon free zone (with the "No Fire" event) and make sure no weapons can bounce in from outside.

- Use springs. They're fun.

- Most people only use normal springs. Still, it might be interesting to experiment with horizontal springs.

toolTreasure hunt only

- Don't use too much diamonds. That way, players will have to fight to win. Don't use more than 199.

- Make big levels where you really have to look for the diamonds.

toolRace

- Make your levels medium sized. Levels that are too short are only fun for a very short time (cuz you only play for a short time) and levels that are too big can get a little boring.

- Use only the "frostbiter"(alias freezer) and the "TNT" weapons. These are both fun to use in a race. The others are not.

- Don't slow the players down too much. Difficult obstacles are annoying. Races are supposed to be fast. Keep it that way.

- You can use springs with delay. That way, someone who's only behind a little has to wait a second. Don't use them too often, though. That get's annoying. If you use them, only do it once.

Some things are just my opinion and some people might disagree with me. But hey! That's not my problem, is it? :)
If you've got an idea for a tip mail it to me.
