How to make music for your levels
When I had gotten the hang of making levels and tilesets, there was only
one thing I didn't know how to make...music. The answer is
"ModPlug Tracker". A program for making mod, s3m, xm, and it files.
1) First
of all, download
ModPlug Player and Tracker.
Don't get me wrong...This is not an in depth tutorial on working with
ModPlug Tracker. This is just to get you started.
2) Start
ModPlug Tracker.
3) Go to
"File", "New" and select "MOD".
4) Click
on the "Samples" tab.
5) Click
on the "import sample" button.
6) Choose
a file. (For example a wav file)
7) You can
add a new sample by clicking on the "New sample" button.
9) Click
on the "Patterns" tab.
10) Click
somewhere in one of the white columns.
11) Press
and hold the "C" button on your keyboard. You'll hear sample 1.
So, the basic idea is that you add samples to your list. These are the
instruments. And then, you put samples in the patterns. The patterns
are the actual music. The keys on the keyboard are different
tones. So, an F will give a higher tone than a C.
You can add patterns with the "insert pattern" button.
You can place samples everywhere in the pattern columns
and if two sounds are in different columns they can play at the same
time.
The rest is pretty self-explanatory. Just experiment with it.
